about

Following the successful release of the label’s first compilation earlier this year, ‘Club Entry Vol. 1’ Borne Fruits now presents a two track charity EP featuring edits from founder Amaliah and renowned club aficionado, Or:la.

In the lead up to their next b2b, the two producers have created ‘Y2SLAY Edits’; an ode to their musical influences and a fond farewell to the summer of dreams. The EP features a Beyoncé edit from Or:la and a Missy Elliot edit from Amaliah.

Or:la’s edit of ‘Me, Myself and I’ holds the blissed out melody from Beyoncé’s original whilst flickering percussion is layered on top to give it that bumpy, club ready sound. Harmonies flutter around the track in the lead up to a drop of snares and bass giving it that UK tint.

Amaliah’s edit of ‘Pass That Dutch’, now entitled ‘Throw That Dutch’ carves an acid line with bass heavy notes and sharp percussion in a lead up to the recognisable rap verse from Missy. Varying vocal chops and a techno melody give it that edge making it one for the darkest of booths. Both tracks are fit for the club as we lead into the winter months and reflect the two DJs sound perfectly.

For the artwork, the artists wanted to encapsulate the noughties in style and in essence by reflecting the iconic album images both Beyoncé and Missy have on ‘Renaissance’ and ‘Respect M.E.’, hence our very own stallion cameo from horse, Pru. Both are dripped in Y2K style tracksuits with blinged out accessories giving a spin on their take from the attitudes of Queen B and Missy.

The charity the two decided to donate the earnings to is ‘Black Trans foundation’, a non-profit organisation working for the social advancement of Black trans people in the UK, and working towards a world where Black trans and gender-nonconforming (gnc) people have the same access to healthcare and opportunities as their cisgender counterparts.
